At Kongu Kalvi Nilayam Matric Higher Secondary School, we believe that manners make the individual. Good behavior, polite communication, and respect for others are not only encouraged but also practiced every day. These Courtesy Guidelines aim to shape students into well-mannered, responsible citizens who uphold the dignity of themselves, their families, and the school.
General Courtesy Points
- Students must greet all teachers and elders with respect — either with folded hands (Namaste) or a respectful "Good morning/afternoon".
- Always stand smartly and attentively when spoken to by a teacher or adult. Avoid slouching or keeping hands in pockets.
- When entering a classroom while the teacher is present, students should wait for permission at the door before stepping in.
- If a visitor or elder enters the class, students should stand up in respect and remain so until asked to sit.
Speaking and Interaction
- Use respectful words such as “Please,” “Thank You,” “Sorry,” and “Excuse Me” in daily interactions.
- Always address elders properly — use “Sir” for men and “Madam” for women.
- Avoid shouting, arguing, or speaking out of turn — both inside and outside the classroom.
- Students must speak only in English within the campus to develop confidence and fluency in communication.
Behavior in School Premises
- Always offer help to those in need — especially to visitors, younger students, or senior citizens.
- If a teacher drops something, students are expected to pick it up politely and hand it over.
- In public transport, students must offer seats to elders and behave considerately.
Behavior to Avoid
- Chewing gum, talking loudly, or acting rudely in public places is unacceptable.
- Spitting, littering, or damaging property reflects poor discipline and is strictly prohibited.
- Never interrupt a conversation between adults or barge into staff rooms without permission.
Personal Hygiene & Conduct
- Cough or sneeze into a handkerchief — never into the open air.
- Keep textbooks and notebooks neat, properly covered, and labeled.
- Practice quiet, controlled movement— avoid running, pushing, or shouting in hallways or assemblies.
Leading by Example
- Students are expected to be role models for peers, demonstrating values of humility, empathy, and honesty.
- Good behavior is not just a rule but a lifelong habit that becomes second nature when practiced consistently.
- We believe, "You are judged by your behavior before your words," and hence strive to cultivate inner discipline that reflects externally.
These guidelines are designed to foster a positive and respectful school culture, where every student contributes to a harmonious and inspiring learning environment.
